Hello All

Could you please tell me what you consider to be the strongest over the counter pain killers to take if you are also taking MTX. I was recommended Panadol extra but they are not touching the pain that I am experiencing. I had a tooth removed Friday and I am so fed up with the pain.

hi Anne,

You can buy paracetamol and codeine 500/8 over the counter which are a bit stronger than paracetamol.
Have you tried Nurofen or ibuprofen? You can take ibuprofen and paracetamol together if the pain's bad.
If it's still as painful tomorrow you should ring the dentist because it should be settling down by now.
Hope you get some relief from it soon.

Love, Doreen xx

Ah, I hadn't realised that, I can't take any of the NSAIDs so never think of them with mtx. You could ask in the chemist, a couple of doses might be ok, maybe it's just long term you can't take them.
I find the paracetamol and codeine quite good for tooth pain.
Have you thought of ringing NHS direct? They may be able to get you a prescription.
Hope you can get something.

Love, Doreen xx
